I'm excited to be an artist in residence at FAVA in Edmonton for a solid month this coming July/August (i'm told ii'll be the first resident artist since 1982!!). Some things i'm doing as part of the residency: a screening & artist talk on July 25th (with toonie bar! have i mentioned FAVA is my kinda people?!); a curated screening from the FAVA archives on August 2nd (toonie bar!); a workshop 'The Art of Projection' August 8, 15 + 17th (where we will be exhibiting the work we make at FAVA's annual summer BBQ). I will also begin work on a new installation tentatively titled 'waiting for time to repeat itself' which will be shot near Lac La Biche in northern Alberta. I'll be keeping a blog while in residence so you can keep track. SUMMERTIME!!
dearfield, colorado will be installed at MCA Denver as part of a group show titled: Continental Drift [July 13 - September 23, 2012] and will later move to the Aspen Art Museum [October 19 - November 25, 2012] Curated by Nora Burnett Abrams & Jacob Proctor.
Continental Drift brings together the work of seven Colorado-based artists, each of whom explores the idea of place in diverse and thoughtful ways. Ranging from specific studies of both historical sites and contemporary ruins to more abstract or conceptual examinations of space, these artists demonstrate a collective preoccupation with place and setting. While some seek to unearth a specific history in Colorado, others are interested in the ideas and objects that define sites and establish the contours of spaces we all inhabit. This exhibition will include works in film, photography, sculpture, painting, drawing and installation that reflect this singular idea in manifold ways. Artists included are: Christina Battle, Scott Johnson, Jeanne Liotta, Sarah McKenzie, Adam Milner, Yumi Roth, and Edie Winograde.

Composed of the 3-frame video installation Wandering through Secret Storms as well as new works, this solo exhibition project addresses the relationship between archives, public memory and practices of surveillance. Presented in a creative mise-en-scène, Christina Battle’s moving image work forms the nexus around which will be displayed communication devices (telegraph, camera, radio, telephone) from private and public collections coupled with documents from local archives, thus situating surveillance as a practice affecting all communities – regardless of their urban or rural specificities.
